The Ballymun Biodiversity Action Plan was launched by the Lord Mayor
of Dublin, Caroline Conroy, in November 2022. Guest speakers included
Dr Mary Tubridy, the ecologist who conducted the survey work for the
Ballymun Biodiversity Action Plan, Dr Áine O Connor, National Parks and
Wildlife Service, Dr Rob Gandola, the Herpetological Society of Ireland and
Dr Darach Lupton, Office of Public Works and curator of the Botanic Gardens, Dublin.
Muriel Farrell, from Ballymun Biodiversity Action Group,
presenting a Gardening for Biodiversity course in July 2023,
an action of the Ballymun Biodiversity Action Plan.
The Ballymun Biodiversity Booklet was distributed
to all homes in Ballymun/Santry in July 2023.
Additional booklets were sent to the local library and community organisations.
They will also be distributed at various community events.
Biodiversity Workshops at Cooraclare, Co Clare:
Dr Fran Giaquinto led a workshop demonstrating
how to carry out a quadrat study. She helped the group
to identify the species growing in the grassland and on the stone wall.
Finally, she led them in the practical job of weeding the grasses growing
in the stone wall to allow the ferns room to thrive.
